How much is my citation and do I have to appear in court?
If this is your first or second violation within the last twelve months check the waiver schedule. If you have had two prior citations within the last twelve months, the citation is not waiverable (the ability to pay without appearing in court). You WILL be required to appear in court. (Exception: seat belt tickets remain the same)

How much is my seat belt violation?
Driver - $90.00; Passenger - $80.00.

Can I call to request time to pay my fine?
No, in order to request time to pay you must appear on the court date and ask the Judge/Magistrate for time to pay.

I did not show proof of insurance to the Officer, can I show proof of insurance when I pay the citation?
Yes, proof of insurance can be shown prior to your court date when paying the ticket. If you are appearing in court, you should bring proof of insurance and present it to the Judge/Magistrate.
Proof of Insurance must include the driver’s name, and coverage dates which include the offense date.

Will my fine be different if I come to court?
The Judge/Magistrate determines the fine amount in court and there is no way of knowing what you will pay prior to your court appearance. The Judge/Magistrate reviews the records and listens to your comments and bases his decision on all the information given.

What kind of payment methods are accepted?
If you are paying in person, no third party checks are accepted. A check must be presented by the person named on the account.
The Waiver Bureau, located on the first floor, can accept case payments as well as waiver payments.

I did not have insurance on the day I received my citation. Will my license be suspended? If so, how long?
Yes, the State of Ohio will suspend your driver’s license for a minimum of 90 days.

I can’t appear on my scheduled court date. How do I request a new date?
The Court requires all requests for continuances in writing. You will need to explain why you can’t appear on the scheduled date, if this is your first appearance on the charge you may request a date within the next two weeks. If the scheduled court date is for any other type of hearing the Court will set a new date. NOTE: The Court IS NOT obligated to continue your date for any type of hearing – be prepared to appear on all scheduled dates.

When requesting a continuance of my arraignment (first appearance), what are the available days and times for appearance?
If you have been charged with a minor misdemeanor (a waiverable offense), you may request an appearance on Wednesday or Thursday at 1:00 p.m. All charges, including minor misdemeanors, may be scheduled for arraignment on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday at 8:45a.m.

What is good service on my complaint?
Contact the Civil Division or refer to the Civil Docket inquiry. Good Service on a complaint means that the defendant has successfully been served with the summons and complaint. Most complaints are sent certified mail.

How much does it cost to file a complaint?
Small Claim complaint (up to $3000.00) is $50.00. Civil complaint (up to $15,000.00) is $90.00

What is the status of this case?
Contact the Civil Division or refer to the Civil Docket inquiry. There is also a public terminal located in the Civil Division office.

My case has been satisfied, why is it still appearing on my credit report?
Contact the Civil Division or refer to the Civil Docket inquiry. If our docket does not show that the plaintiff in the case has given a written satisfaction to us, you will need to contact them to do so. As far as the credit bureau report, it is up to the agencies to get the most recent information from the Courts. We do not notify them, but we will provide them with any information if they contact this office.

What is the status of the garnishment on this case?
Contact the Civil Division or refer to the Civil Docket inquiry. There is also a public terminal located in the Civil Division office.

After a Judgment has been given in Eviction Court, how long do I have before I have to move?
A Writ of Restitution will be issued. You will have 24 hours from the date that you receive the Writ. After those 24 hours, the landlord may request a Set-Out (your property is set out on the curb) by the Bailiff.
